Pastel wallpapers
Low saturation, high key, soft everywhere.
Pastel is what you get when you keep the brightness high and pull the saturation down — colour that's present but never insistent. As wallpapers they're the calmest bright option available, and they're the natural pick if you find dark backgrounds gloomy but don't want a high-contrast photograph either.
Cloudscapes, blossom, soft gradients and dawn light make up most of the set. Because the whole image sits in a narrow tonal range, there's very little to distract from — but that same property makes them the trickiest category for icon legibility. White label text on a pale pink sky is genuinely hard to read. If you keep a lot of desktop icons, check the top-left corner before committing.
Tip: These are the images most likely to show banding, since a smooth pale gradient has the fewest distinct tonal steps to work with. Always take the lossless version.
