Dark wallpapers
Low light, heavy shadow, nothing shouting.
Dark wallpapers are the workhorse of the genre, and it isn't only aesthetics. Most people now run dark interface themes, in rooms dimmer than daylight, for hours at a time — and a dark wallpaper closes the brightness gap between the screen and everything around it. Your eyes stop compensating.
The images here lean towards deep blues, near-blacks and low-saturation reds rather than pure black. There's a reason for that: a flat black wallpaper looks empty, and on an LCD it buys you nothing anyway. What works is tonal darkness — visible structure and texture living in the bottom third of the histogram, so the image reads as depth rather than absence. White desktop icon labels sit cleanly on top of every one of these, which is the practical test most bright wallpapers fail.
Tip: On an OLED panel these draw noticeably less power than a bright wallpaper. On an LCD the backlight runs flat out regardless — pick these for how they look, not for battery.
